The Swansboro Rotary Club King Mackerel Blue Water Tournament has become one of the club's most important fundraising events. In the beginning, the tournament's prize purse was just $10,000 with less than 100 players. In 1988, however, the prize purse had surpassed the $100,000 mark and Lee Moore was the master of ceremonies. In addition to attracting more fishing enthusiasts, the tournament was also one of the first to be on the Southern Kingfish Association's circuit.
